How to back up your Mac
There are many ways to backup your computer, below are some simple examples to get you underway.
Time Machine
Time Machine is the built-in backup feature of your Mac. If you have a USB drive or other storage device, Time Machine can use it to automatically back up all of your files, including apps, music, photos, emails and documents. You can then use your backup to recover your files, including older files, files that have been deleted or files that are no longer accessible.
iCloud
You can also use iCloud to sync and access data across all of your devices that are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account. iCloud keeps your photos, videos, contacts, calendars, notes, passwords, and more safe, automatically backed up and available anywhere you go.
Given the nature of iCloud subscription and storage plans, iCloud may not be optimal for your MacBook but better suited for your iPhone or iPad.
Manually copy files to another storage device
Manually back up files like photos, videos and documents by simply dragging them from your Mac to a USB drive or other external storage device connected to your Mac. To restore them, drag them back to your Mac. This gives you total control over what is backed up, however, being a manual process if you forgot to copy the data to an external hard drive, it wont be backed up.
We carry multiple options for back up that are compatible with Time Machine.

NAS
NAS (Network Attached Storage) backup offers numerous advantages, including centralized storage, automated backups, and enhanced data security. It provides a convenient and efficient way to protect data from various devices by creating a central storage location accessible over the network. Synology is one of the leading NAS solutions available. With their powerful software tools and robust RAID configurations, NAS systems can be scaled up by adding more hard drives as storage needs grow. Synology can offer Local, Cloud based, Remote Access and Off-Site backup solutions.
LTO
LTO (Linear Tape-Open) backup offers several key benefits, primarily related to cost-effectiveness, security, and long-term data retention. It's a robust and reliable method for storing large amounts of data, particularly for archival and disaster recovery purposes.
Key benefits of LTO
Air-Gapped Security:
LTO tapes can be physically disconnected from the network, creating an air gap that protects data from ransomware, malware, and other cyber threats
Tamper-Proof Storage (WORM):
Write Once Read Many (WORM) functionality ensures data cannot be altered or deleted, crucial for regulatory compliance and data integrity.
Offline Storage:
Tapes can be stored offsite, providing a secure and reliable backup solution in case of disasters or security breaches.
Data Encryption:
LTO-4 and newer drives offer hardware-based AES-256 data encryption, protecting data during transit and storage
